For each learning activity teachers shall clarify to students the relevant school-wide academic expectations and course-specific learning goals that will be assessed.
What to Look for:
Are classroom assessment approaches based upon school-wide expectations and course-specific learning goals?
- teachers articulate what students are expected to know and be able to do; they explain the skills and competencies as well as content-based understandings and applications that must be met
- teachers make clear to students in oral assignments, in handouts, and in postings in the classroom (e.g., on marker boards or display boards) what the specific expectations and learning goals are for particular units, lessons, projects, etc.
- teachers assess student work based on school-wide expectations and course-specific learning goals which have been articulated to students
