What to Look for:
 

Do teachers engage in professional development opportunities that allow them to develop a broad range of assessment strategies for their classes?

  • the school values the importance of assessment and its integral connection to the teaching and learning processes by offering various professional development activities that broaden teacher assessment strategies
  • teachers engage in formal training opportunities about assessment strategies (e.g., workshops on portfolio development; seminars on performance assessment; a conference on senior projects)
  • teachers continue to develop assessment strategies for their classes based on knowledge gained in professional development activities
  • teachers engage in informal collegial conversations and other in-school collaborative opportunities to talk about and improve their assessment strategies and to plan professional development opportunities regarding assessment
