Professional development activities shall support the development and implementation of the curriculum.
What to Look for:
Do the district and the school provide multiple opportunities for teachers to engage in professional development toward curriculum improvement?
- a wide array of professional development activities is offered based upon curriculum needs identified through the curriculum review and evaluation process; these activities are intensive and long-term, not “one shot” efforts
- the school uses assessment data to guide the planning of curriculum-related professional development
- teachers are supported and encouraged in their efforts to meet together frequently to critique and improve their own classroom curriculum
- teachers are supported in their efforts to seek additional staff training outside the district regarding the development and implementation of the curriculum
- the school has the ability to provide focused professional development to the entire faculty as needed
