Indicator 1

The mission statement and expectations for student learning shall be developed by the school community and approved and supported by the professional staff, the school board, and any other school-wide governing organization.

What to Look for:

  • a record is available of the process used to create the mission statement and expectations
  • dates of the initial approval by the faculty and school board as well as subsequent revisions are noted
  • examples exist which illustrate the commitment of the administration, faculty, and school board to the mission and expectations
  • the school enlists the assistance of faculty members, staff members, parents, administrators, students, and community members to create the school’s mission statement and expectations
